With the Bonneville Power Administration raising power rates by the end of the year, it may be time to evaluate your existing heating and cooling system to see what options are out there that can save you money yet keep you comfortable in your home. A ductless system is one option. In addition to being super efficient, and extremely quiet, there are also some incredible rebates/ tax credits out there available for them. We just received a copy of Subreports, a newsletter put out by the Springfield Utility Board (SUB) which is a customer-owned municipal utility for Springfield. In the newsletter they have an article discussing ductless systems. It is a well written and informative article and we thought people outside their service area might enjoy reading it as well.

The following are excerpts from the article taken directly from “Subreports”:

“Little marvels

These discreet units mount directly on the wall and connect to an exterior heat pump via refrigerant lines that run through a small opening in the wall. They offer the efficiency of traditional ducted heat pumps – with the flexibility of zonally-controlled heat – all at a cost far less than a traditional ducted heat pump. And the units have their own vents and fans that deliver heated or cooled air into the living space.

Depending on the size and configuration of rooms in the house, one or more units can be installed.

Big payoff

Check out what ductless heat pumps can do for you:

-They heat homes at a fraction of the cost of baseboard, ceiling, wall heaters and electric forced air furnaces.

-Conditioned air circulates through the home via ultra-quiet fans, eliminating hot and cold spots.

-They are inexpensive and easy to install, with little disruption to your home.

-You get air conditioning… no more window units”

We agree, ductless systems are a great way to go but they are not right for every situation and should not be the sole source of heat. If you have baseboard heat or some other zonal heat, you will retain that as back up to the ductless in extreme cold situations.

If you are a SUB customer, SUB is expanding their ductless program which returns as much as $1,000 back to customers. Formerly, the program was limited to site-built, single family homes but now allows customers living in manufactured homes to take advantage of the savings as well. Also, previously, only homes with electric resistance zonal heating qualified to participate. Now homes with existing electric forced air furnaces qualify as well.

If you are interested in learning more about ductless systems and if one would be appropriate for your home, please contact us at one of our three locations. If you want to learn more about SUB and its programs, you can contact us at our Springfield office or call SUB’s Conservation Connection at 541-746-0963 or visit their website at www.subutil.com .

Everyone [was] very knowledgeable, professional and polite with a job well done.”

From K. Dillin of Springfield who had a ductless system installed, an Angie’s List member, she gave us an Overall A grade. She then went on to say “Pacific Air Comfort installers were on time, very professional, finished on time and cleaned up very well. Explained heating system in detail.” When asked if she would hire us again she said yes.

From B. Cessnun of Veneta regarding servicing of her equipment and her three year service contract. She said “Excellent, on-time, efficient.” Would she hire us again? Yes.

From M. Leaptrott of Roseburg, regarding the installation of a new heating and air conditioning system she said “The installers arrived on time, were very professional and cleaned up after themselves. They were also very courteous.” Would she hire us again? Yes.

From S. Jonas of Eugene regarding installation of a ductless system. They have us an “Overall A” and went on to say “This was the second home that we had Pacific Air Comfort install a ductless heat system in. Both times the installation and quality of the system were excellent. Everything was done on time, with the three heads placed in each home exactly where we wanted them. I can highly recommend Pacific Air Comfort and would use them again. Everything went well from getting the estimate to the day of the installation. Ms. Smirl then added “The day my heat pump quit, there was someone there to look at it and I actually got to talk to real people on any phone calls, that’s a big plus.” We know how aggravating automated answering systems are and do not use one. It takes live people to provide the best service possible, not computers. Thank you Ms. Smirl!

We received another evaluation in the mail, this one from Mr. and Mrs. R. Stevens of Myrtle Creek. They rated us “Excellent” in all seven categories and went on to say “Excellent communication with us. Thank you.” Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Stevens for taking the time to fill out the evaluation and thank you for the kind words. We appreciate that today, communication is often lacking. We strive to always be up front and provide as much information as we can so you know exactly what is happening and when. Nobody likes to be confused.

With the advent of computers and emailing, letter writing and thank you notes are becoming a lost art but today we received a very nice hand written thank you from S. Lady of Eugene. In her note she said “Sincere thank you to everyone who did such a great job on restoring our heating system after our “raccoon invasion”. Everyone was friendly, easy to have around and helpful as well as very professional. We are warm and comfortable and feel secure in knowing all is well. All is much appreciated.” Thank you Ms. Lady for taking the time to write us. We truly appreciate it and are very happy that you are once again comfortable in your home and the “raccoon invasion” is a thing of the past.

NW Ductless Heat Pump Project is a private, non-profit group that works in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana “to accelerate the adoption of inverter-driven ductless heating and cooling systems in existing electrically heated, single-family homes to displace electric heat. ” Another-words, NW Ductless is working to educate the public and promote the use of ductless heat pumps in homes throughout the northwest as they are extremely efficient.

So what is a ductless heat pump and how does it work? Well, there is an outdoor unit and indoor unit and a remote control. The outdoor unit connects to the indoor unit by a small bundle of cables, including a refrigerant line. The unit typically sits on the ground outside your home. The cables run from the outdoor unit through a 3″ in the wall of your home to the indoor unit. There is no ducting at all.

The indoor unit is mounted on a wall centrally located in your home. Working with your existing system, just one ductless system is usually enough to heat and cool the average home. Keeping your existing system in addition to the ductless ensures bedrooms and bathrooms are comfortable and allows flexibility in temperature adjustments. This does not mean that a home cannot be heated and cooled solely with a ductless system. We have clients who use only ductless and are extremely happy and comfortable in their homes.

The remote control is used to adjust the settings of the ductless system for maximum comfort and efficiency.

So, why the title “NW Ductless Installer Spotlight”? Well, Pacific Air Comfort is proud to say that we were recently chosen by NW Ductless to be the featured installers for ductless systems for the state of Oregon. To see our “spotlight” please go to http://goingductless.com/oregon-installer-spotlight . We are honored to have been chosen for this. We take pride in knowing our industry and make sure our employees and staff are well trained. This training has led us to be awarded “Master Installer” status for ductless systems by NW Ductless. We have also been rated 3D Platinum Dealer status by Daikin, the worlds largest ductless manufacturer. Not many companies have achieved this.

If you are interested in ductless systems and would like to learn more about them, please call us at one of our three offices and ask to speak to a member of our sales staff.

His primary heat source is now a heat pump with a modulating gas furnace as back up. He said that his combined gas and power bills from this past summer through to December were approximately 50% less than from the same time the previous year. He went on to say that he is extremely satisfied with his new system. His downstairs and upstairs are both now finally comfortable. Before, his upstairs was too hot and the downstairs too cold.

The sales staff that sold the system reports that the match-up of furnace and heat pump gets a SEER rating of 19.2, an HSPF rating of 12.5 and an EER rating of 13.2. These are extremely high numbers when compared to a typical heat pump system.

If you are interested in Greenspeed and would like to learn more, please call us at one of our three offices and ask to speak to a member of our sales staff.
